Europeans should have ‘free and open’ access to broadband

The EP’s Committee for Industry, Transport and Research is researching ways to improve Wi-Fi broadband for European citizens, ISPreview reports.

One of the ways they could improve the service is to free up ‘white space’ radio spectrum to carry wireless signals. This is the space between TV channels.

Jérémie Zimmermann of citizen group La Quadrature du Net, supported the plans for better broadband services.

“This vote must now be confirmed by the rest of the parliament, in plenary,” Top10.com reported him as saying.

“We can be sure that the telecoms and broadcasting industries will lobby hard in order to remain in control of airwaves.”

Yesterday it was revealed that Japanese company Fujitsu has proposed plans which could provide five million Brits living in rural locations superfast broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Overcome Debt

How to overcome debt; it is not simple, it takes guts and it is a difficult time to get through, but anyone can do it. Credit card problems are the main concern when it comes to money worries and the amount of financial stress these little plastic guys can cause is unbelievable. You can easily become blacklisted by not paying your credit card installments and having a bad credit record is not something you want now, or any time in the future. It is a nightmare to live with and your life will honestly not be the same once you are blacklisted.

There are counsellors that will help you deal with the financial stress when you are trying to overcome debt; have a session with a counsellor that specializes in this field and you will feel a lot better. You might need more than one session, but that’s fine; have as many as you need. Your money worries won’t go away unless something drastic happens like you get an unexpected inheritance or win the Lotto, but it does get easier to deal with, especially so if there are good counsellors involved in the process.

Aluminum ETFs in Focus After Alcoa Results

Exchange traded products that invest in aluminum could see action Tuesday after Alcoa said it swung to a profit in the first quarter as aluminum prices rose.

The company said it sees a 12% increase in aluminum demand this year.

Aluminum exchange traded funds represent a tiny fraction of the overall ETF market.

The $9.7 million iPath Dow Jones-UBS Aluminum Subindex Total Return ETN has been strong since mid-March as industrial metals have rallied.

The $5.7 million Global X Aluminum ETF invests in companies that are active in some aspect of the aluminum industry.

Some Wall Street analysts think aluminum prices are set to take a breather.

BMO Capital Markets downgraded Alcoa to underperform after the quarterly results mostly on expectations of a weaker aluminum price in the quarters ahead.

“In terms of the industry outlook, demand for aluminum is rising in 2011 but so is supply,” BMO said in a research note.

Diesel vehicles have come a long way over the years.

For starters, mass-market diesel cars generally arent noisy like they once were.

They also put out less greenhouse gases and have higher fuel efficiency than their gasoline powered cousins. And diesel engines have always lasted more miles than gasoline so you can buy one and run it into the ground.

But, do they make sense to buy? Americans havent exactly been crazy about them.

Why is Diesel Vehicle Market Share in the U.S. so Low?

Diesel vehicles exceed 40% of the market share in Europe, however, is just 2.2%, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Why?

Smog. Diesel vehicles put out more black sooty particulate matter (PM) and NOx (oxides of nitrogen) emissions, which lead to smog and adverse health effects. The , as a result, has put higher regulation standards on diesel vehicle emissions than the EPA.

As a result, very few vehicles meet both CARB and EPA clean diesel standards and only VW, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, and makers of a few heavy-duty trucks have entered the U.S.
