Credit coming for Michigan I&M customers
Michigan customer of Indiana Michigan Power will see a credit on their July bills.
How much? I&M says a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours in a month should see a one-time credit of $11.06 on their July statement.
Overall, the company will refund more than $3 million.
Why the refund? I&M asked the Michigan Public Service Commission in January 2010 to OK a rate increase.
By state law, if the state doesn’t approve or deny a requested rate increase within 180 days, the utility company is able to self-impose a rate increase.
That’s what happened. When the state’s public service commission did approve a rate, it was lower than what I&M asked.
So, the company’s refunds are the difference between what the utility self-imposed for a rate and what the state OK’d. The self-imposed rate was in effect from July through November 2010.
